Eternals gaiman6/27/2023 ![]() ![]() Against the backdrop of Marvel's Civil War, the Eternals are awakening one by one from a strange, waking dream, at once coming to terms with the fact that they are far more than the normal people they have thought themselves to be. have boldly taken on these concepts with a loving hand, in the process telling a fresh and crackling fun yarn full of mystery, suspense and majestic power - all with an eye on helping establish Kirby's creations as a vital part of the Marvel Universe once and for all. What leads up to it is a pretty standard 'race of gods are regular people and need to be reminded who they are' story. The ending issue is actually the only interesting chapter in this story, I'd argue. is a book that ends much stronger than it begins. Flash forward to 2006: Superstar creators Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr. Gaiman's run was my first exposure to The Eternals, so speaking from someone who wasn't aware of Kirby's run (at the time) I enjoyed it and helped me understand the backstory of the Marvel universe and thanks to some googling and wiki page checking I learnt how complex it's history is, with the whole Skrulls are deviants of that race, etc stuff.
